No Nukes — More Renewable Energy!
Why we’re showing up
This event is part of Communities Against Nuclear: Days of Action, a statewide effort supported by the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter to oppose Governor Hochul’s plan to expand nuclear power. Organizers argue that nuclear is too expensive, too slow to build, and leaves behind long-lived radioactive waste — and that New York should invest in affordable, renewable energy instead.
Background: in early January 2026, the County Executive put Broome County on a list of communities open to hosting a new nuclear plant in response to a Request for Information from the New York Power Authority.
