About us
Who we are
Indivisible Binghamton is a group of people in the Greater Binghamton area, dedicated to peacefully ensuring that the values and rights enshrined in our nation's Constitution are respected and upheld by our elected officials.
Our mission
Members generally agree with the progressive agenda — especially with regard to racial, ethnic, and religious diversity, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, environmentalism, and non-violent resistance. We support our national, state, and local representatives when they stand with us in fighting for progressive policies and actions, and we hold them accountable when they don't.
How we work
We influence our Members of Congress in four main ways:
- Meeting with our MoCs and their staffs.
- Attending MoC-sponsored events, especially town halls.
- Weekly mass calling — regular calls to our MoCs and local officials.
- Postcard writing, letter writing, and rallies to engage the public.
Our actions are informed by Indivisible: A Practical Guide for Fixing our Democracy , the national movement's playbook for effective civic pressure.
Who can join
We're an inclusive group that welcomes people of all backgrounds and beliefs. Our only requirement for membership is active civic engagement. We ask members to:
- Respect other members' privacy
- Be patient, respectful, welcoming, and courteous
- Show up — calls, postcards, rallies, meetings — however you can
How much time does it take?
Whatever you can give. Calling a representative takes about 15 minutes. We provide sample scripts for calls and postcards. There are deeper ways to get involved too — committees, voter registration drives, get-out-the-vote, campaign rallies — and every level of involvement matters.
